Temple Moor Student Selected to Represent Team England in International Diving Championship

Posted 8th May 2025

Temple Moor High School is incredibly proud of Year 7 student Lucas Bishop, who has been selected to represent Team England at an upcoming international diving competition in Rome, making him the youngest diver chosen to compete at the event.

At just 12 years old, Lucas trains with the City of Leeds Diving Club’s Junior Elites, dedicating over 16 hours per week to intensive training sessions, both early mornings and evenings. This season, despite stepping up to the challenging 11–13 age group, he has medalled in every elite competition he has entered, including an outstanding performance at the Elite Finals, where he became a quad medallist and the only Leeds athlete to do so.

Lucas has also been reselected for the prestigious STARS programme, which provides free access to gyms and pools across West Yorkshire, supporting his elite-level training.

As he prepares for his debut in Rome, and a second international event in Croatia just four weeks later, Lucas is organising fundraising activities, such as bake sales and football scratch cards, to help with the costs of travel and competition.

In a special tribute to his journey, Lucas will carry a personalised flag featuring both the Red Kite Learning Trust logo and that of his former primary school, Templenewsam Halton Primary School, a symbol of the community that continues to champion his success.

Principal, Mr Matthew West, said, "We are incredibly proud of Lucas and all that he has achieved. His dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence are an inspiration to us all. We wish him the very best as he represents England on the international stage."

CEO of Red Kite Learning Trust, Richard Sheriffadded, "At Red Kite Learning Trust, we believe in nurturing ambition and supporting every learner to realise their full potential. Lucas embodies that spirit, his drive, determination, and willingness to challenge himself at the highest level are truly inspiring.”

Lucas’ journey is just beginning, and Temple Moor High School, Templenewsam Halton Primary School and our wider Red Kite Learning Trust community will be cheering him on every step of the way.
