Careers Information & Guidance (Progression)

Aims

We recognise the vital role of high-quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) in preparing young people for their future. Our programme is designed to raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes and ensure all students are ambitious, informed and able to access a wide range of career opportunities. 

We are committed to delivering a progressive, inclusive and impactful CEIAG programme that equips students with the knowledge, skills and experiences required to make well-informed decisions about their next steps and to successfully transition into further education, employment or training.

Our intent is that students will:

• Develop a secure understanding of the world of work, including the ability to respond positively to an evolving labour market 
• Build independence and research skills, enabling them to access, evaluate and use careers information effectively 
• Develop self-awareness, recognising their strengths, interests and values to support informed decision-making 
• Acquire the career management skills needed to plan, review and adapt their pathways, including resilience and the ability to manage change and transition 
• Gain the confidence to aspire, achieve and progress into sustained and meaningful destinations 

Personal guidance is a key strength of our provision:

• All students are entitled to one-to-one careers guidance interviews at key transition points 
• Our Careers Adviser is available on multiple days each week, offering both booked appointments and accessible drop-in sessions 
• Appointments can be arranged by students, parents, staff and key workers, ensuring support is responsive and inclusive

Beyond the classroom, we provide a range of meaningful encounters and experiences:

• Regular engagement with local employers and industry professionals
• Opportunities for work experience and workplace exposure
• Encounters with Further and Higher Education providers
• Co-curricular activities designed to develop employability skills and broaden aspirations 

Our careers strategy is underpinned by the Gatsby Benchmarks and focuses on ensuring students benefit from: 

• Personalised and impartial guidance
• High-quality employer encounters
• Real experiences of workplaces
• Clear understanding of education and training pathways

Importantly, we ensure that provision is inclusive and targeted, with particular attention given to disadvantaged and vulnerable learners, so that all students can access and benefit from the full careers programme. 

Impact

We evaluate the impact of its careers programme through a combination of destination data, student voice, future skills questionnaires, participation tracking, and Gatsby Benchmark assessments.  

We monitor improvements in learners’ career readiness, confidence, and knowledge, alongside progression outcomes into education, employment, and training.  

Feedback from employers and partners further informs our evaluation, while targeted analysis ensures that all student groups benefit equally. This robust approach allows us to continuously refine our provision and ensure meaningful, measurable impact on learners’ futures.
