Consultation

Temple Moor High School is currently consulting on the potential sale of a small piece of land behind our Sports hall, in support of an application to the Department of Education for approval for the land sale. This consultation is a requirement of application to the Department of Education, and will run for seven weeks, opening on Monday 30 April and closing on Friday 11 May at 9am.

We welcome any views in support of, or objection to, the land sale based on the location and the reasoning detailed below.

The proposed area of land is detailed below, comprising an area of approximately 1500m2:

This area of land sits behind the school’s sports hall, in an area which is unused by students. It sits upon a slope, making it difficult to safely use for educational purposes, and has been relatively unused since the school was redeveloped in 2008. At the same time, it constitutes an ongoing grounds maintenance cost to the school.

The proposed sale of this land would provide funding which would be reinvested in facilities and resources for our students. Department for Education guidelines require that any proceeds from land sales are directly spent on capital projects within the school. If successful in obtaining permission to sell the land, we would invest the proceeds in the following areas:

  • Investment in on-site accessibility for people with disabilities, promoting inclusion.
  • Investment and renewal of on-site CCTV to maintain and enhance student and staff safety.
  • ICT investment and renewal to enhance teaching and learning.

The school feels that the money gained from this sale will support student learning and opportunities, thereby benefiting students and the local community, and that this far outweighs the loss of this small and unused piece of land.

Whilst surplus to our requirements, the land is situated in parallel to existing public highways and utilities, which would enhance the suitability of the land for potential housing development. However, any use of the land, post-sale, would be subject to separate planning consent from Leeds City Council based on plans submitted by the new landowner, and local residents would be able to voice opinions on any proposed development via the council’s planning portal at this point.

Temple Moor welcomes your feedback on this land sale in relation to our proposal to sell this piece of land for the reinvestment of the funds into students’ education. To discuss the plans further, we invite all interested parties to discuss the proposals further.
