Posted 29th January 2025

On Tuesday 28th January, Red Kite Learning Trust proudly marked the grand opening of its new Sixth Form extension at Temple Moor High School. The official opening ceremony was held in the new building and attended by esteemed guests and members of the school community who turned out to celebrate the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Abigail Marshall Katung.

The Lord Mayor’s presence underscored the significance of the project, which represents Red Kite Learning Trust’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional educational environments for young people.

Community members, staff, and students joined in celebrating the milestone, reflecting the shared excitement and pride in the Trust’s continued growth and innovation. The unveiling ceremony concluded with a guided tour of the new facility, offering attendees an opportunity to experience its modern and innovative features firsthand.

The build was made possible with £2.6 million in funding from the Department of Education’s Post-16 Capacity Fund and was undertaken by Lindum Group. It began in October 2023 and completed in time for use by the new 2024 intake of Sixth Formers.

The expanded facility has enabled Temple Moor High School to offer a further 175 places to students from across Leeds, taking the total capacity to 350. Sixth Formers at the school will benefit from improved, high-quality facilities and resources, including seven additional classrooms, a new study area, a dedicated ICT suite, plus a significantly enlarged common room with a servery and areas set aside as a cybercafé and social area. It has also allowed for a dedicated Sixth Form entrance and reception, plus additional post-16 office space and a meeting room.

Mr James Hudson, Co-Principal and Head of Quality of Education at Temple Moor High School, said: “We are thrilled to have been able to further improve our sixth form provision. We are already really enjoying the benefits of this expansion, enabling us to offer high academic standards and outcomes for a greater number of young people from both Temple Moor and other schools in the area.”

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, CEO of Red Kite Learning Trust, Richard Sheriff, expressed gratitude to all those involved in bringing the vision to life, saying, “This is a proud moment for our Trust. This new expansion not only enhances the infrastructure of this school but also reflects our commitment to providing not just classrooms, but environments that foster growth, innovation, and opportunity for every student. We are delighted that young people in this community will benefit from this facility for many years to come and we are immensely thankful to our partners and community for their support.”
