From September 2026, more families will qualify for Free School Meals as the Government expands eligibility.
We are encouraging all parents and carers to check whether their child may be eligible. This includes families who may not have qualified before.
Free School Meals are not just for children who have school dinners. Even if your child usually brings a packed lunch, it is still important to apply if you are eligible.
Registering for Free School Meals may entitle your child to free meals, but it also brings additional funding into school through pupil premium.
This funding helps schools provide extra support and opportunities for pupils, including:
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 already receive free meals automatically. However, families should still apply if they are eligible, as this allows the school to receive additional funding.
Your child may be eligible if your household receives certain benefits, including Universal Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit run-on.
If you are unsure, it is still worth applying.
Applying is quick and straightforward and only requires a few basic details.
Applications are confidential and will not affect any benefits. If you need support with your application, please contact the school office.
Please note that the expanded provision of free school meals applies from September 2026 so eligible families will begin receiving free school meals in the 2026/27 academic year.
